About the Beaufort scale
The Beaufort scale was devised by Admiral Sir Francis Beaufort in 1805. It runs from Force 0 (calm) to Force 12 (hurricane). Mariners use it to describe wind and sea conditions.
One knot = one nautical mile per hour = 1.852 km/h = 1.151 mph.
