About Sailor Tools
What this site is
Sailor Tools is a free collection of practical calculators and reference guides for sailors, boaters and anyone who spends time on the water. The focus is on tools that are genuinely useful — not just number curiosities, but things you might actually reach for when planning a passage, wiring an instrument panel, or calculating how much diesel you need.
Tools include wind speed and Beaufort conversion, voltage drop and cable sizing calculators, tank volume calculators, fuel consumption estimators, ETA calculation and a full set of marine reference guides covering VHF channels, phonetic alphabet, navigation lights, sound signals and Mayday procedure.
How it works
Everything runs directly in your browser. No data is sent to any server, no account is needed, and no sign-up is required. The site works on any device — desktop, tablet or phone.
All calculations happen instantly as you type. Results are provided for guidance — always verify critical calculations independently, especially for electrical and safety applications.
Accuracy and disclaimer
We aim for accuracy in all tools and reference data. Conversion factors and cable resistance values are sourced from published standards. However, this site is provided for general guidance only.
For electrical work: always verify against BS EN ISO 13297 (recreational craft electrical systems) and consult a qualified marine electrician for complex installations.
For navigation and safety: always consult official publications including the COLREGS, Admiralty charts and current Notices to Mariners. The reference guides on this site are summaries — not substitutes for proper training.
Results are provided as-is, without warranty. Use at your own risk.
Feedback
If you find an error, have a suggestion for a new tool, or want to report a problem, the site is a work in progress and all feedback is welcome.
